The Kono Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a wine I found at a local wine shop selling for $13.99.
Kono is Mauri owned. The Wakatū Incorporation comprises 250 Mauri families who descended from the original land owners of the Te Tau Ihu region. The Tohu winery (including Kono) produces over 1,500,000 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc.
The Kono Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is sourced from estate vineyards (Awatere Valley) and local contracted growers, with fruit from Awatere Valley, Waihopai, and Rapaura. It is both fermented and aged in stainless steel vats.
The Kono brand is more of a Taste of Marlborough wine since it is sourced over a wider area and the Tohu brand is more of a wine that represents the estate vineyards.
These are simple wines that are truly a reflection of the vineyards, you do not need to do extensive manipulation of the grapes to achieve a delicious wine. The alcohol content is 13%.
The Kono Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is pale yellow with a hint of green. The nose is pretty, with tropical fruit, melon, grapefruit, peach, pear, and apple, and very floral. The Kono Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is crisp, clean, fresh, and alive.
This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like grapefruit, not too tart, green apple, pineapple, candy spice, stone fruit, and ripe peach. The mid-palate shows a salty/nutty sensation, Anjou pear, guava, and nectarine.
The acidity is well-balanced and the flavors roll on and on.
The Summary
- The Kono Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a very tasty, well-made Sauvignon Blanc.
- A great warm-weather wine.
