Handcraft White bottle 011The HandCraft Inspiration White Wine is a blend of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Moscato and Pinot Grigio sourced from vineyards in more than one California grape growing AVA. Hand Craft is one of Delicato Family Vineyards labels (Gnarly Head, Brazin, Twisted and {Noble Vines}, among others).  Hand Craft is the brainchild of Cheryl Indelicato, the granddaughter of Gaspare Indelicato who founded the company in 1924. In 2012, HandCraft was able to donate $100,000 to breast cancer charities. This White blend was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, it sees no oak. The alcohol content is 12.5%.

The color is a pale golden yellow. The nose is pretty, this could be a perfume, there is melon, citrus, magnolia, ripe peach and sliced apple. This white wine has a substantial mouthfeel, it is not a heavy wine, but there is some heft to the flavors. It starts with dried apricot, green apple, pink grapefruit and lemon. There is a transition to sweeter peach, guava and lime. With so many American wines today having reduced acidity, the HandCraft Inspiration shows a solid, very balanced line of acidity running throughout the length of the wine. The finish is subtle, but never really goes away.

THe HandCraft Inspiration White is an expertly blended wine, the flavors are well framed against each other and the acidity allows the flavors to play out with excellent length. I recently attended the wine seminars for the Simply Italian wine roadshow and got to sample wines from Italy’s many wine regions, and while the flavors in the Inspiration White are definitely more California than Italy, the structure and acidity compare well to those Italian wines. Pair the Inspiration White with antipasto, inventive salads, Firecracker shrimp, Spicy Thai or Chinese food or just grab a glass and enjoy.
