The Story

The Bozzano website for the Corvelia brand (a Red Blend, a Zinfandel, and this Cab) is a collaboration between Bozzano and an un-named top Paso Robles winery. This is not a vintage-dated wine but is designated by Lot number. Since the grapes and possibly the fermented juice seem to come from a Poso Robles winery, the cost does not look to be why this is a non-vintage wine.

A non-vintage wine uses grapes harvested in different years. A possible reason may be a wine that has been aged longer is blended with a younger more fruit-forward wine. The aged wine mixed with youthful wine can be a very pleasing juxtaposition of flavors and textures.

The Corvelia Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 22 website is short on information but it does mention black cherry, toasted oak, and pipe tobacco, which suggests a Cabernet Sauvignon with some time in oak barrel. The alcohol content is 14%.

Paso Robles is an excellent growing region for the Cabernet Sauvignon grape and it has a reputation for wines that rival Napa Valley.

The Corvelia Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 22 Tasting Notes

The color is dark, barely see-through black cherry red. The nose shows black cherry, herbs, dark chocolate, plum, spice, and a savory note. The Corvelia Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 22 has a rich flavor and excellent length.

This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like blackberry, licorice, soft plum, a little black pepper, and spice. The mid-palate adds raspberry, tart cranberry, a little vanilla cream, orange zest, and blueberry.

The tannins are sweet, they are in the mix but do not bite. The acidity is balanced and allows the flavors time to fully unfold.

The Summary

  • The Corvelia Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 22 is a very good California Cabernet Sauvignon.
  • It sips well, is easy to drink in the best sense, and would pair well with comfort food as well a steak does on the Weber grill!

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
