Welcome to Domain Day CheapWineFindercom. Again We've got another podcast for a winery brought up on the CheapWineFindercom website. Today We've got one from Costco. This one was $15.69. It's a weird price for them. I think it means it might have been a manufacturer's special or the winery's special, but it's this is is. Well, we'll get into that. This is the octavian sellers.

Mckinley springs vineyard horse haven hills cabernet sauvignon 2022. Horse haven hills is in the columbia valley. It's in south central columbia valley. Um, there have been five 100-point wines from the Columbia Valley and all of them are from Horse Haven Hills. This probably is not a 100-point wine. The McKinley Springs Vineyard and this is a single vineyard wine for less than $16, is the McKinley Springs Winery, the Andrews family. They've been farming in the area for 80 years and they first planted grapes in 1980, which gives them 45 years now and they have their own wines in there and they do have some value-priced wines, but this is mostly above $50 for their Cabernet Sauvignon. This might be from a really good vineyard.

This is a of a nice. It's both bright and juicy and dark and brooding at the same time. It's got some darker flavors. It's got blackberry and maybe some kind of chocolate, but there's like strawberries and raspberry and blueberry, a little bit of spice, a little bit of spice, a little bit of black pepper. Good acidity, got great length. I mean it keeps on going. The acidity gives the wine the backbone like these are the terms they use that gives the. Without acidity it's just kind of a blob of flavors. It just hits you and that's it. But with the acidity the flavors can kind of linger and unfold and keep on going. It's got a decent length. And what's the? Horse Haven Hills and it's called Horse Haven Hills actually is because when the early settlers got there settlers they found horses that had escaped from the Spanish conquistadors and were driving in those hills it's nice rolling hills in Washington so they went ah, this is a place. This is a great place If horses like it, so do we. I'm gonna take another sip.

Wines from this area and from Washington as a whole tend to be really nicely well-rounded, that rounded fruit, very fruit-forward, not over-the-top. Good structure, bright and juicy, very approachable wines, and that's what this is. This is a wine that's very sippable. It's well-made. That's what this is. This is a one that's very sippable. It's well made.

Uh, the company that made it is mw wines. They actually make west mount uh pinot noir from oregon, I think, uh from oregon and also uh highland estates, all from the willamette valley. That's what they do. They have a couple of brands of willamette valley pinot noirs. But they also make custom wines and that's what this is. It's wine made for Costco from a very nice vineyard in Washington State. So if you're a good Pinot Noir producer, I mean I guess you can make a good Cabernet Sauvignon too, and that's what they did here. It's a very nice wine.

$15.69 is actually a good price for a solid Cabernet Sauvignon. I mean this is not a dumbed-down one at all. It's got all the flavors. It's very approachable, very sippable. It would go very nice with a steak or a roast or tacos or anything of that nature. I mean it just would go with anything. Anything that tastes good kind of goes with stuff that tastes good, as long as there's a balance. But I'm just going to take another sip of this one. Yeah, it tastes great. This one sips. This is a really nice wine. If you're looking for a good Cabernet Sauvignon and you want high-end but you'd prefer to pay a value price, well this is a good one for that. It's a nice label.

Octavian Cellar sounds good, named after Romans. The bottle's a nice, heavy one, like a Cabernet Sauvignon. Should they're nice and heavy and have that punt in the bottom, the indentation in the bottom, because that's what you need for a strong bottle that you're going to put away for 25 years, though you're going to drink this one as soon as you get it. But I mean, it is part of the services and the circuses where it looks good. If you have a bottle that is substantial, it means the wine should be aged, though, and I imagine you can get six, seven years out of this one. If you wanted to, maybe more. Don't have any details on the oak program because it's a custom wine, but I think it's better off drinking it when it's bright and shiny and new. So that's it for me.
