The Mark Hill California Pinot Noir 2022 is a wine I found at Aldi selling for $7.99; it looks like an Aldi exclusive. This is a wine wine produced for Aldi by Trinchero Family Wine Estates.

Mark Hill California Pinot Noir 2022

The Story

The Mark Hill California Pinot Noir 2022 has a label very similar in color and shape to E & J Gallo’s Mark West Pinot Noir.

The cork for this Pinot Noir is a Ménage a Trois cork, a Trinchero brand. I am not certain what the Ménage a Trois cork means. Was this Pinot Noir bottled at the same facility, and did someone forget to change out the corks?

There are no production details as an Aldi wine, so we can’t compare the Mark Hill Pinot to the Ménage a Trois Pinot. With Trinchero as the same producer, similarities should be expected.

So, this Pinot Noir is confusing. the label is reminiscent of a competing wine brand, but this Aldi wine may, in some way, be related to an entirely different brand.

The alcohol content is 13.7%.

The Mark Hill California Pinot Noir 2022 Tasting Notes

The color is a see-through garnet red. The nose is cherry, herbs, dark chocolate, strawberry, black licorice, and violets, not bad for $7.99. The Mark Hill California Pinot Noir 2022 is a fruit-forward Pinot Noir with some nice spice and interesting flavors.

This Pinot Noir tastes like rounded black cherry, a slap of spice, plum, a hint of stone fruit, and 85% cocoa chocolate. It is not overly complicated, but what is in the class is tasty.

The tannins and the acidity are both well-controlled.

The Summary

  • The Mark Hill California Pinot Noir 2022 is well worth giving a try.
  • It sips well, would pair with comfort food, and sells for less than eight bucks.
  • I don’t know why the label reminds me of Mark West or what this Pinot has to do with Ménage a Trois, but ultimately it does not matter since this Pinot can stand on its own.
