The 19 Crimes Frankenstein Cabernet Sauvignon is a non-vintage wine sourced from grapes grown in SouthEast Australia. I found it at Target for $9.99.
It may be a non-vintage wine, but it has a glow-in-the-dark Frankenstein Label (authorized by Universal Monsters), and if you scan the back label and turn the camera on your phone on the label Frankenstein will come to life by Thunderbolt and give you tasting notes. I may be easily amused, but I liked it.
The 19 Crimes brand is one of the top sellers in the world. The 19 Crimes were the offenses that would get you sent from England to the Australian Penal Colony. What was once a crime is now a source of pride.
The 19 Crimes Frankenstein Cabernet Sauvignon is a limited-edition wine, there is a Bride of Frankenstein Red blend and while their website does not show it I think there is a Dracula wine.
The website does not go into anything concerning the vineyards or the wine-making production. My recent history with 19 Crimes wines has been pretty positive. I have enjoyed the Snoop Dogg and the Martha Stewart wines and their main wines have been consistently very drinkable.
The back label mentions dark berries, violets, and vanilla so this Cabernet Sauvignon probably saw sort of oak maturation.
The alcohol content is 13.5% and the back label shows some nutritional information such as 118 calories for each 5-ounce serving and 2.8g of carbs.
The 19 Crimes Frankenstein Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting Notes
The color is a semi-see-through black cherry red. The nose is ripe with red and black berries, soft spice, vanilla, black pepper, and a light floral edge. The 19 Crimes Frankenstein Cabernet Sauvignon is a soft fruit-forward Cabernet with pleasant oak flavors of light chocolate and vanilla.
This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like blackberry followed by raspberry, then a soft spice, and plum. The mid-palate has raisin spice, orange zest, and blueberry.
The tannins are soft and the acidity does its job well.
The Summary
- The 19 Crimes Frankenstein Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific Halloween party wine, a very appropriate label, and wine that tastes great while not taking itself too seriously.
- It is a fun wine and package and is well worth its $10 price tag (It lists on the website for $18 but is often on sale).
