The Seven Hills Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a wine that sells for $12.99 at Costco and between $15 to $20 elsewhere. This is not a brand wine, typical in the value-price range, but a wine from a winery.
The Seven Hills Winery was founded in the 1980s and was one of the first wineries in the Walla Walla AVA. It is currently part of the Crimson Wine Group with an impressive roster.
The Seven Hills Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is not an Estate wine but is sourced from a mix of old vine vines (40 years plus) and other established vineyards. Seven contracted vineyards were selected to give the wine a variety of flavors and textures.
The grapes are machine-picked which is something that seems to be more common. Most of the Sauvignon was fermented in stainless steel vats but a portion was fermented in small French oak barrels. The juice was left in the stainless steel and oak container until fermentation was complete. The was aged “on less” which indicated that the dead yeast was left with the wine.
This wine is 99% Sauvignon Blanc with 1% Muscat which is a sweeter grape and should add some bright character.
The Seven Hills Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023 has an alcohol content of 13.5% and is vegan-friendly.
The Seven Hills Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is very pale gold with a hint of green. The nose is tropical fruit, lemon, apple, grapefruit, honey, melon, peach, pear, and coconut milk. The Seven Hills Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is fresh and bright, with delicious flavor.
This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like a stew of grapefruit, apple, lime, and orange blossom honey followed by apricot. The mid-palate brings mild tangerine, a hint of cream, and peach.
The acidity does an excellent job of giving this wine good length.
