The Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir 2020 sells for $12.99 at Costco and I have seen it at $35 but is more likely found for around $20. Acacia Vineyards was founded in the Carneros AVA in 1979 and was one of the first Pinot Noir wineries in the region.
Acacia has changed ownership several times over the years. In 2016, Diageo sold the Acacia brand and its wine inventory to Treasury Wine Estates. The Acacia winery and vineyard were sold elsewhere. So since the 2017 vintage Acacia has been a brand rather than an Estate winery.
The Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir 2020 is the current vintage and Acacia no longer shows up on the Treasury brand page. Treasury is currently looking to rearrange its wine portfolio and offload its value brands and concentrate on over $20 wines. Acacis should be an over $20 brand so I do not know why they have disappeared.
This is now a mystery wine, where did they source the grapes and where did they make this? The back label says “Vinted and bottled by Acacia Vineyards, Sonoma, California”. That means they bottled the wine and not much else. The original Acacia was located on the Napa side of the Carneros AVA.
Acacia has an excellent reputation for quality Pinot Noir wines and the price tag (except for Costco) suggests the reputation still exists. The Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir 2020 does well in reviews and Treasury Wine Estates has top vineyards and winemaking know-how to keep the brand at a high level.
The alcohol content is 14.7% which would be a little high for a Cabernet Sauvignon and something to keep an eye on in a Pinot Noir.
The Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir 2020 Tasting Notes
The color is a cranberry red with black highlights. The nose is ripe cherry, herbs, a little smokey, spice, plum, bitter dark chocolate, and strawberry. The Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir 2020 has good length, the flavors keep going on and on.
The Pinot Noir tastes like black cherry, hard-edged spice, a hint of vanilla, mocha, and sweet blueberry. The mid-palate brings tart cranberry, pomegranate, an exotic spice, and raspberry.
The tannins provide good structure and the acidity allows the flavors to fully unfold.
