The Claude Manciat Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 is $12.69 at Costco and $17 to $23 elsewhere. Bourgogne is what we call Burgundy, the home of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Claude Manciat Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022

Claude Manciat is a family-owned winery founded in the 1890s, and today has 55 acres of vineyards around the region. This small winery does not have a website, and it is surprising to see it featured at Costco.

You can not expect the average American wine drinker to have extensive knowledge of French wine villages. This wine is intended for the US since it has Chardonnay listed on the front label. In France, they know their wines by the name of the village on the label, if it a Red it is this grape, if it is White it is that grape.

This is not a wine tied to vineyards in a particular region or near a named village, it includes grapes from the general region.

This is a wine made in a small family-owned winery sourced from their own vineyards, this should be a traditional Burgundian Chardonnay.

I did not find production notes for the Claude Manciat Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022, and the scattered findings on the web were conflicting. This is either a Chardonnay fermented and aged in stainless steel vats or larger neutral oak barrels. Either way, do not expect a California buttery Chardonnay. The alcohol content is 13%.

The Claude Manciat Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 Tasting Notes

The color is pale golden yellow. The nose is apple, lemon, pear, a little honey, a touch of spice, lightly floral, with juicy, ripe peach. The Claude Manciat Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 is a lean Chardonnay, with subtle flavor, and excellent length.

This Chardonnay tastes like nectarine, apple, a hit of lime, a salty sensation, and a slap of soft spice. The mid-palate shows grapefruit (not too tart), dried pineapple, and tart lemon.

The acidity allows the flavors plenty of room to unfold and gives this Chardonnay very good length.

The Summary

  • The Claude Manciat Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 is from a small Burgundian producer that Costco sells for $12.69 (The.69 means when it is gone it is gone for good).
  • If you are at all interested in Chardonnay wines, this is a must-buy.
