The Burlwood Cellars Brut Rosé is a $4.99 Sparkling wine from Aldi. It is produced by a wine company from Modesto, California which would seem to strongly suggest that some entity of E & J Gallo was involved. This a five-buck Bubbly that sells for $10 to $12 in states without Aldi stores.
I don’t know which grapes were used, Aldi gives tasting notes of strawberries, raspberries, and watermelon, with a slightly sweet finish. And this Bubbly is made with the Charmat Method which is the same way that Prosecco is made.
The grapes are fermented once and then aged for a while. The juice is then transferred to huge pressurized tanks. A measured amount of yeast and sugar is added, the pressure is applied and in a few weeks to a couple of months, you have completed Sparkling wine.
That is about all of the information available for the Burlwood Cellars Brut Rosé. CWF has reviewed this Bubbly several times in the last few years, usually around the Holidays, because an inexpensive Sparkling wine can come in handy during the party season. We have found this to be a very drinkable $5 Bubbly so on to the tasting portion to see how this year’s bottle stacks up. This is a non-vintage wine that should be the same year in and year out.
The Burlwood Cellars Brut Rosé Tasting Notes
One minor disappointment is there is no cork, it is a twist-off metal and plastic contraption, but it does make a “POP” when you pull it off. The color is pretty salmon pink. The nose is fruity and slightly candied, but still crisp and clean. The Burlwood Cellars Brut Rosé is a dry Bubbly, it has some candy flavors but surprisingly they are not sweet.
This Bubbly tastes like raspberry jam, dried strawberry, a little pink lemonade, a salty sensation, and nectarine. There isn’t a mid-palate, what you get upfront stays the whole time, luckily what is upfront is tasty. The acidity is well-balanced and sets you up for your next sip.
