The Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 is 65% Shiraz and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vineyards in Australia. Usually, the vineyard location for Australian wine is Southeastern Australia or South Australia, both very large regions, but this wine has grapes that could have come from anywhere.

That is not surprising since their website said over 1,000,000 glasses of Jacob’s Creek wines (not just the Shiraz Cabernet) are drunk every day. There are 4 glasses to the bottle and 365 days a year, you do the math. Jacob’s Creek makes a lot of wine.

Jacob’s Creek winery was founded in the Barossa Valley in Southeastern Australia in 1847. They were Barossa’s first commercial winery. Modern wine was started in 1976. There are still vineyards near the original location and a tasting visitor center, but I think Jacob’s Creek is now a Brand and not a stand-alone winery.

The Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 is a worldwide wine, their website has different versions for nine separate countries, plus a global website. And somewhat surprisingly Jacob’s Creek is the top-selling wine in New Zealand, I guess they get tired of Sauvignon Blanc after a while.

The Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 has vague tasting notes, they use the word classic four times in two short paragraphs with almost no descriptors. They do mention cherry, plum, and mocha spices. Mocha is an oak flavoring, but there is no mention of how the oak was used.

I found the Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 selling for $5.99 and should be easily found for well under ten bucks. They sell millions of bottles of Jacob’s Creek wine, they must be doing something right. The alcohol content is 14%.

The Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 Tasting Notes

The color is raspberry jam red with black highlights. The nose is dark ripe berries, spice, light herbs, dark chocolate, and pepper. The Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 is a soft smooth wine with ripe fruit and sharp spice.

This Red Blend tastes like black cherry, a slap of spice, black pepper, blackberry, and plum. The mid-palate shows strawberry, bitter bark chocolate, and a late slap of blueberry. The tannins are soft and sweet and the acidity is balanced.

The Summary

  • The Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 is a lot of wine for the money.
  • It may not be anyone’s favorite wine, but when your dough is short and your thirst is huge, the Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2020 will hit the spot.
