The Luca & Luigi Pinot Grigio 2015 is an IGP classified wine sourced from vineyards in Northern Italy. The label says IGT Delle Venezie, but that’s old news. IGT or P wine indicates that the grapes are representative of the particular growing area, but in someway do not conform with the regulations of the DOC. When I say that the wine does not conform to the rules, that isn’t a bad thing or some sort of mistake, there are 100s of good reasons why a producer would by-pass regulations. Earlier this year the Italian authorities (the DOC) renamed the region to Delle Venezie DOC (includes Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige) and to avoid more confusion IPT Delle Venezie was renamed IGP Trevenezie. There are many smaller DOCG, DOC and IGP inside those 3 regions, including the Prosecco DOC. Pinot Grigio is the most exported grape from Italy and this is the area where the best Italian Pinot Grigio is grown. Luca & Luigi is a brand wine, there is no estate mentioned as the originator. The alcohol content is 12%.
The color is a pale, shiny golden-yellow. The nose is lemons, green apple, and flowers. This is a bright, crisp, dry wine, with balanced acidity. I starts with lemon, melon, apple, and grapefruit. The mid-palate adds a nice tart/ sweet/salty component. Like I said the acidity is well-balanced, enough to be a food wine, but not too much to make casual sipping unpleasant. The finish is subtle but lasts and lasts.
The Luca & Luigi Pinot Grigio 2015 is a solid White wine, for me the best Pinot Grigio has layers of delicate flavors and while the Luca & Luigi does not really feature that, what is in your glass is pretty tasty. I am not usually a big Pinot Grigio drinker, because often the acidity level gets in the way of sipping enjoyment, but the Luca & Luigi drinks just fine. I found it on sale for $7 and at that price it rocks.
Really enjoy the Luca Luigi wine but Binny’s is always out
