The Revelation Pays D’Oc Chardonnay 2021 is $7.99 at Trader Joe’s in the US and is widely available in other countries. Badet Clement is the producing winery. That is a project by two winemakers who make affordable wines with grapes from the Rhone Valley, Burgundy, and the Languedoc, and about 2/3rds of their wines are for export.
The Pays D’Oc in the name indicates that the grapes came from the Languedoc growing region in Southern France. AOC-designated wines are the top category with Pays D’Oc being seen as a step below. These wines get this rating when the vineyards fall outside the AOC boundaries or the winemaker chooses not to follow all the AOC rules and regulations. In the value-price range, Vin D’Oc is fine, it allows the wine to be more affordable.
There are no technical notes for the Revelation Pays D’Oc Chardonnay 2021, but from what I read this wine is made in a Burgundian style and does see some oak barrel aging. Chardonnay from Burgundy is the main style of California Chardonnay, just like California Cabernet Sauvignon is often made like Bordeaux Red wines.
The Revelation line of wines also includes Pinot Noir, here is a review of the 2018 vintage. We were impressed with its quality-to-price ratio. An eight-dollar French Chardonnay that delivers is an absolute bargain find. The alcohol content is 13.5%.
The Revelation Pays D’Oc Chardonnay 2021 Tasting Notes
The color is wheat yellow. The nose is lemon, green apple, peach, a hint of cream, stone fruit, soft spice, peach, and a faint floral edge. The Revelation Pays D’Oc Chardonnay 2021 has a sleek mouthfeel and balanced flavor.
This Chardonnay tastes like slightly sour pineapple, lemon curd, lime, grapefruit, peach, and Anjou pear. The mid-palate brings melon, nectarine, a little vanilla, and apple. I named a bunch of fruit and citrus taste descriptors, but this is a balanced Chardonnay and no one flavor sticks out. The acidity gives this Chardonnay excellent length.
