The Hampton Water Rosé 2021 is a project put together by Jon Bon Jovi, his son Jesse Bon Jovi, and Gérard Bertrand. Gerard Bertrand is a major player in the French wine industry, he controls multiple estates in the south of France and is a leader in biodynamic wines in the Languedoc region.
This Rosé is a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 15% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah sourced from vineyards in the Languedoc region in southeastern France. One thing that almost all high-end wines have in common is that they only use first-run juice.
First-run juice is the fluid that is released on the initial pressing of the grapes. It is common for top wineries to only use first-run juice and sell off the juice from second and third pressings. The Hampton Water Rosé 2021 used first-run juice.
The Hampton Water Rosé 2021 is sourced from grapes farmed in AOC-designated sections of the Languedoc. The Languedoc is the largest wine district in France and probably the least publicized. It is the region where the bulk of affordable French wines is made.
The Hampton Water Rosé 2021 has great press, virtually every wine publication has given each of its four vintages 90 points. Wine Spectator Magazine named it one of the top 100 wines of 2018, the first Rosé to make the list in 25 years.
One thing that sets the Hampton Water Rosé 2021 apart from other Rosé wines in the under $20 price range is that it is aged in new French oak barrels. They do specify the length of the aging. and Gérard Bertrand’s website does not mention aging. The addition of oak influence will significantly change the flavor profile of a Rosé. The alcohol content is 13%.
The Hampton Water Rosé 2021 Tasting Notes
The color is Barbie Playhouse pink with a touch of amber. The nose is pretty, crisp, and clean. There are scents of raspberry, pink lemonade, soft candy spice, vanilla cream, black cherry, and spring flowers. The Hampton Water Rosé 2021 is exceptionally well-balanced, with bright fruit, and solid acidity.
This Rosé tastes like tart cherry, vanilla, a short hit of spice, spice drops candy, but not sweet, and tangerine. The mid-palate shows strawberry, a little salty sensation, and tart nectarine.
The acidity is excellent, you will be reaching for another sip without thinking. The French oak smooths the initial flavor of this Rosé and then gives way to tart and spicy sensations.
