Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose

June 1, 2021 by Domaine Dave 1 Comment

The Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose is a non-vintage Sparkling wine, 95% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay sourced from Estate vineyards in the foothills of the Tupungato Mountain in the Uco Valley of Mendoza in Argentina. Tupungato is one of the tallest mountains in the Americas, and the vineyards are situated at 4,000 feet.

Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose

Domaine Jean Bousquet is a 4th generation family-owned winery from the Languedoc region in France. The high-altitude vineyard areas in the mountains of Argentina and Chile must have seemed like the ultimate growing region to French winemakers. The high altitudes of Argentina’s foothills are above the line where wine pests and diseases can live.

While France’s vineyards have been relatively stable in recent times with a history of constant, sometimes losing, battles with insects and grapevine diseases, the lack of natural grapevine enemies in Argentina allows the vineyards to be converted to organic farming with far less trouble than most wine regions.

The grapes used in the Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose are certified organic; actually, all Domaine Jean Bousquet vineyards are certified organic and vegan-friendly. Here is a cheap wine tip, if you are on the lookout for organic wines at a fair price, look to Argentina and Chile. The conditions in the vineyards there lend themselves to organic farming.

This Sparkling wine is produced from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the 2 main grapes used in the making of Champagne, but this Bubbly is made in the Italian style. With the Charmat Method, the 2nd fermentation takes place in huge pressurized stainless steel vats.

The Charmat Method is late 1800s technology, and the Champagne Method or the Traditional Method is mid-1500s technology. Both methods produce lots of bubbles and make wines that are fun to drink. The Champagne Method can take years to complete the process, while the Charmat Method takes weeks to months.

From value-priced to reasonable priced Sparkling wine, either method does a great job. With high-priced Bubbly, the extra time needed for the best Champagne is something the Charmat Method cannot replicate. This Bubbly is a mashup, a French winery producing wine in Argentina, using Champagne-approved grape varietals, but using the Italian way to make Bubbly. The alcohol content is 12.5%.

Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose Tasting Notes

The color is on the peach side of pink, and there is a nice supply of bubbles. The nose is a mix of strawberry and grapefruit and cherry, tart apple, and lime. The Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose is bright and sleek; there is a mix of fruit and citrus flavors.

It tastes of cherry, dried pear, tart lemon, rustic grapefruit, lime from a G and T. The mid-palate mostly mirrors the main body goes this Bubbly but does add strawberry, a salty sensation, and raspberry with a slightly hard edge.

The acidity is well-balanced and has you reaching for another sip with consciously thinking about it.

The Summary

  • The Domaine Jean Bousquet Brut Rose is a delicious summer Bubbly.
  • I found it for $11.99, which is an excellent price for a Bubbly this good.
