2012 Maryhill Sauvignon Blanc

365082The 2012 Maryhill Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from 2 vineyards in the Columbia Valley AVA of Washington. Maryhill Winery is family owned and was founded in 1999, by 2009 they were named Washington Winery of the Year and in 2015 were named Pacific Northwest Winery of the year. This Sauv Blanc was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, this is the 2012 vintage (with young wines it is better to get the most recent vintage, unless the older wine came from an exceptional year) the 2013 is the current vintage and these wines are meant to be consumed sooner rather than later. The alcohol content is 13.3%.

The color is a clear, pale, golden-yellow. The nose is peach, pear, grapefruit and lemon/lime. This is a medium bodied, dry wine with a solid slap of acidity. It starts with golden delicious apple, lemon, Anjou pear and tart grapefruit. The mid-palate brings a little melon and kiwi.  The finish is full and long.

The 2012 Maryhill Sauvignon Blanc from Columbia Valley is a slightly different take on Sauv Blanc wines. Not as bright and floral as French Sauvignon Blanc, not as bold as New Zealand, different flavors from Chilean and not as mellow as California. It is a solid, well-balanced, not as fruit forward as most, well priced Sauvignon Blanc.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
