The 2010 Domaine d’Andezon is a blend of 90% Syrah (40+ year old vines) and 10% Grenache (60+ year old vines) sourced from a co-op located south of Chateauneuf du Pape in the Cote du Rhone region in France. This is a wine put together and imported by Eric Solomon. The wine is aged in both stainless steel vats and concrete tanks and is unfiltered and unfined, which means they leave the grape residue (and all the flavor and depth they impart), so you might get some grape solids in your glass. Parker gave this vintage 91 points and called it one of the best red wine values available. The alcohol content is 14.5%.
The color is rich, dark opaque purple with a strawberry halo. The nose is blackberry, raspberry, menthol, smoke and creme de menthe. The mouthfeel is full and lush, extracted blackberry leads things off, licorice and curry spice follow. The mid-palate softens with blueberry and the semi-burnt hard crunchy part of a fudge brownie and a late splash of strawberry. There is a solid backbone of tannins and a firm substantial feel to the wine. The finish is strong and lasts a long time.
The 2010 Domaine d’Andezon is a full bodied, full flavored wine. A young wine, but there is nothing light and breezy here, this wine has some heft behind it. Drinks very well on its own or pair it with steaks or roasts.
