2009 Seven Hills Viognier

4273The 2009 Seven Hills Viognier is 100% Viognier sourced from a single vineyard, Talcott Vineyards, which is located in the recently established Wahluke Slope AVA, which in turn is located inside the Columbia Valley AVA in Washington State. A reasonably small production wine, only 960 cases produced. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels, each barrel can cost over $1,000 and in the under twenty dollar price range you see a lot of used oak barrels mixed with new oak, but here they spare no cost. The alcohol content is 13.6%.

A pear nose that gives way to a musty apple flavor with a complex butter toffee finish with just a hint of oak. This would be great with shrimp or trout.

So there you have it, a top notch Viognier, single vineyard, no costs spared in the production of the wine and selling for $15 to $18.  A unique and delicious wine, this is one of those bottles you break out when very good friends come over.
