2008 Tamas Estates Double Decker Red

109279dThe Tamas Estates Double Decker Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Barbera (the exact proportion of the blend is their little secret) sourced from several estate vineyards in the Central Coast AVA in California. Tamas Estates is the entry level label for Wente Vineyard, the oldest family owned winery in the US. Each grape variety was fermented separately in steel tanks, then aged separately in used oak barrels and stainless steel vats. The alcohol content is 13.5%.

The color is a rich, deep ruby red with black highlights and a strawberry halo. The nose is blueberry, vanilla, coffee with a touch of new mown hay. This wine is soft and smooth, rich blackberry with dark chocolate start things off. The mid palate adds toffee, custard cream and thick licorice. The tannins are balanced and the acidity is covered well by the lush flavors. The finish isn’t all that strong, but it does last a while.

The Tamas Estates Double Decker Red is a velvety smooth, lush, but slightly simple wine. But, it is lush and velvety enough to make $30 wines jealous, what the Tamas Estates Double Decker does well, it does very, very well.
