The Sargent Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is a $6.99 ALDI’s wine sourced from vineyards in the Central Coast AVA of California. The Sargent Canyon Cabernet is Estate grown and sustainably farmed. So who or what is Sargent Canyon? A quick check with Google shows that Sargent Canyon is a trademark owned by Scheid Vineyards, vineyards and winery founded 40 years ago. Scheid owns 10 vineyards in 4 different grape growing AVA’s and produce well-respected wines. So, this is a 7 buck, sustainably grown Estate wine, something you don’t see very often coming out of California. The alcohol content is 13.5%.
The color is a clear cherry red with black highlights. The nose is black cherry, vanilla, blackberry, oak spice and milk chocolate. This is a smooth, dry Cabernet with silky tannins giving a little pull on the mid-palate. It tastes of raspberry, blackberry and a little spice. The mid-palate adds tart cherry, tannins and vanilla. There is a little hollow spot in the middle, the flavors fall off before the mid-palate kicks in. The finish is subdued, but lasts a while.
The Sargent Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is a pretty good Tuesday night wine, if it wasn’t for the hollow spot it would be an outstanding value. But as it is, it is well worth the $7 and would pair very well with burger and pizza. I love it, the quality of inexpensive wine has improved to the point that I’m getting picky with Estate grown 7 dollar Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sargent Canyon Cab does what it is priced to do very well and almost came close to being much more.
Bought it. Like it.
Had some last night with some sushi…Thought it was one of our expensive cabs. Definitely worth way more!
Had this with some sushi last night. Paired well and definitely worth it-thought it was one of our more expensive bottles! Great taste, but doesn’t quite have the tannin punch of a well aged expensive cab.
I dont think ive ever had better for 7 bucks. Maybe not for 15 bucks.
