Casillero del Diablo Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2015

casillero_diablo_sb_2015_aThe Casillero del Diablo Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2015 is sourced from the Casablanca Valley, Rapel Valley and the Limari Valley, each in a different growing region of Chile. This is a young wine, the grapes were picked in 2015 and it is still December 2015. Sauvignon Blanc does well as a young wine, meaning a wine with little or no aging, it has bright, juicy citrus and fruit flavors with lip smacking zesty acidity. Aged, complicated Sauvignon Blanc can be wonderful, but SB does not need aging to be an extremely drinkable wine. The Casillero del Diablo was fermented in stainless tanks and sees no oak barrel conditioning. The alcohol content is 13%.

The color is almost clear with sunshine yellow and a tint of olive-green. The nose is very expressive, tropical fruit, lemons, grapefruit, pineapple, along with peach and pear. This is a bright crisp, clean, dry Sauvignon Blanc. It tastes of melon, grapefruit and light pear, lemon and tart apple. The mid-palate adds peach, lime and a hit of pepper. The acidity is strong but balanced, this is a food wine and keep in mind while the flavors are strong this is a medium to light bodied wine. The finish is full and long-lasting.

The Casillero del Diablo Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2015 is an excellent under $10 Sauvignon Blanc. Bright, dry and flavorful, it does everything you would want from a young SB (a young wine should be consumed with 24 months or so of release, the sooner the better) at a very reasonable price.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
