Yes, another celebrity wine! Everyone from Lady Gaga and Fergie to Drew Barrymore and AC/DC has their own wine these days. Most wine drinkers are a little skeptical of wines that are produced with a celebrity’s name attached to them. And rightfully so when the association is just that – name only.
Now it’s Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s turn, right? Well I’m here to tell ya, this is clearly not just a vanity project. The shapely Champagne-style bottle could have just had “Château Brangelina” on it in huge letters and would have most likely sold out quickly to people who are into that sort of thing. Angelina’s picture on the label alone and you’d have yourself a seller! But it doesn’t, and I like that the label is simple, elegant and very unassuming. The only mention of the celebrity tie-in is in small letters on the back: “bottled by Jolie-Pitt and Perrin”. And the newlyweds were involved at every level and every step of the way.
Not only that – this Provence rosé made by Marc Perrin (yes, of the “5 generations of winemaking” Famille Perrin), came in at #84 on Wine Spectator’s annual list of top 100 wines in the world – the only rosé to appear on the list at all – EVER!
It’s a blend of Rolle (also known as Vermentino) along with the more common French Rose” grapes Cinsault, Grenache, and Syrah. It’s a beautiful pale orange to pink copper color. The nose is floral, mineral – with tangerine and honey notes and maybe a bit of smoke.
She has a beautiful full creamy body and tastes like pink grapefruit, melon and wet stone, with a lingering crisp mineral finish. Drink it with whatever the hell you want because Provence Rose’ is versatile and will go with almost anything. Throw an ice-cube or two in it – the way they drink their Rose’ in France (and the way my mom drinks any wine anywhere). Drink it while watching Mr. And Mrs. Smith.
Fun fact: before Brangelina’s time, the Perrins produced a wine here called Pink Floyd in honor of the band who recorded part of their “The Wall” album here.
