2009 Dearly Beloved Forever Red

dearly-beloved-red-wineThe Dearly Beloved Forever Red is a blend of Syrah, Zinfandel, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Sangiovese and Carignane sourced from vineyards in Mendocino County. A Trader Joe’s exclusive ($6.99), made by Mendocino Wine Group, who own a number of properties, most notably Parducci and Paul Dolan. There is not much information available, other than TJ’s little sign next to the bottles in the store, but the Fearless Flyer newsletter says the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months. The alcohol content is 13.8%.

The color is a clear, clean, but opaque strawberry jelly red. The nose is dark berries, cocoa powder, a little vanilla, nothing too exciting. Raspberry and raisin upfront, not super complex, the mid-palate adds some blueberry, vanilla and a touch of spice. A soft smooth wine, but with a nice edge of spice at the finish. The finish is blueberry and vanilla and is ok.

The Dearly Beloved Forever Red is fairly simple considering how many grapes are mixed into the blend. Luckily, the flavor that does show up is pretty good, which would make this an excellent party wine. A cool floral skull on the label, smooth fruit forward flavor, just the wine for Halloween parties.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.

My daughter sent your review of Dearly Beloved Forever Red wine. I am in Dallas, Texas without a Trader Joe’s. Do you know how I could get a case of this wine for my Day of the Dead party???? Thanks for your help.

I want some too – went to my local Trader Joe’s – was told it was a one time only order and there would be no more.
    Is that the truth???
