Pizzolato Pinot Grigio 2012

pizzalatopinotgrigioThe 2012 Pizzolato Pinot Grigio is certified organic and Vegan friendly sourced from La Cantina Pizzolato estate vineyards in the Venezia DOC of Northeastern Italy. The vineyards are located both the hillside and plain of the Piave River. Venice is the leading town in the Venezia DOC region and this is also the area where the Glera grape used to produce Prosecco is grown. This Pinot Grigio is fermented in stainless steel vats and it is not aged, as soon as the fermentation process is completed, the wine is bottled. The alcohol is a mild 12% and this Pinot Grigio lists for $11.99 which is pretty good for an organic DOC wine.

The color is a pale wheat beer yellow. The nose is mellow and pretty, honey mixed with peach, dried pineapple slices, magnolia, tangerine and lemon chiffon. This Pinot Grigio is dry with a bouquet of subtle fruit and citrus flavors. It starts with peach, grapefruit and lemon. The acidity shows up on the mid palate along with golden delicious apple and orange zest. There is a healthy dose of acidity on hand, but nowhere near the acidity levels of the leading Italian Pinot Grigio. The finish is soft, but lengthy.

The Pizzolato Pinot Grigio is a very tasty wine, it splits the difference between the more fruit forward Pinot Grigio’s grown in the US and the more heavily acidic Italian PG’s. Which means plenty of structure to pair with light salads, cold shrimp or fish taco’s and more than enough flavor to be a first rate sipping wine. Plus, it is organic and it is safe to serve to your hardcore Vegan wine drinking friends.
