On a recent after work stop-off at BIN36, one of my fave Chicago wine bars nestled in the shadows of Marina City and the House Of Blues, I discovered my go to white wine “flight” (here, a quartet of wine samples) – the “Voluptuous” flight – had indeed flown. I needed a replacement, and fast! I decided to get a little 80’s and give the “Totally Radical Whites” flight a try. Here’s what this new flight brings to the party:
2011 Steinfeld Grüner Veltliner
Steinfeld’s offering of Austria’s most widely planted grape refreshes you with its caress of orange zest & slap of lime. You’re in citrus heaven for a while, then you get a nice long white peach kiss.
2011 Rio Mendoza Torrontes
Just in time for Torrontes Tuesday, this baby from Argentina smells like oranges dipped in honey and tastes like an island vacation in your mouth with pineapple & mango & a nice long finish of pear. I love a nice pair pear!
2011 Chateau de l’Aiguillette Melon de Bourgogne
Hailing from the Loire Valley, this AKA Muscat is all of your beeswax along with apricots and peach nectar. It’s dry, dry & originally from Burgundy. The Loire is lucky to have it.
2011 Marchetti Verdicchio
Marchetti does this Verdicchio up right with juicy fruit baby. Lemons, limes & oranges suck you into a seductive stream of wet rock. Nice looking long dry finish. From Marche, Italy – coinkydink?
Go taste for yourself at 339 North Dearborn Street in Chicago (312-755-WINE).
