Lost Cellar White Wine 2011

lostcellarswhiteblendThe  Lost Cellar White Wine 2011 is an Aldi’s. $3.99 (had been $6.99 currently on close-out) import exclusive. This blend is designated a Vin de Pays D’Oc wine which indicates it was sourced from the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of France and was produced in a style that did not meet AOC standards, but was a wine that was still indicative of the region. Aldi’s does not release any information on their wines, but Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Picoul and Marsanne are some of the more popular White grapes from the area. The alcohol content is 13%

The color is a bright lemon yellow. The nose is apple, melon, lemon chiffon and a light floral edge. It tastes of pineapple, lemon, tart lime juice and dried apricot. There isn’t much of a mid palate but light brush of minerality and non-sweet SweeTarts candy can be found. This blend is not bone dry, but it isn’t overly sweet, either. The acidity is subdued and the finish is soft and fades before too long.

The 2011 Lost Cellar White Blend is a fine $3.99 tuesday night out on the patio wine. It isn’t super complex, but the flavor that is there is fine. I don’t think it has enough structure to really excel as a food fine, but would do well as a deck or balcony wine. It has a mix of flavors that are not the same old thing and only costs $3.99, if it is not a “wow” wine, it more than good enough for a week night libation.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
