Love Drunk Rose’ 2011

lovedrunkThe 2011 Love Drunk Rose’ is a blend of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir sourced from the Hyland Vineyard in the McMinnville AVA in Yamhill County, inside the larger Willamette Valley of Oregon. Love Drunk Rose’ is part of a line of wines produced by Mouton Noir Wines. Mouton Noir is a project put together by Andre Mack, whose resume’ includes a stint as  Sommelier at the French Laundry in Napa and Head Sommelier at Per Se in NYC, both Thomas Keller establishments. Andre Mack calls himself a micro-negociant, meaning he purchases his grapes from vineyards, but only the best grapes and in relatively small amounts, he only made 1,300 cases of Love Drunk. The grapes used in this Rose’ are a little different from what you normally see used, it is a shout out to Blanc de Noir Bubbly of Champagne. The alcohol content is 13.3%

The color is Barbie Doll pink. The nose is light, crisp and floral, with a dash of strawberries in cream. This is a dry Rose’ with a hint of sweetness. It tastes of strawberry, watermelon with a light touch of minerality. The acidity gives this Rose’ some impressive length, the flavors have some space to unfold. The finish is tart and lengthy.

The Love Drunk Rose’ manages to be elegant, loads of fun and affordable. It lists for $16.99, but prices seem to average to around $15 on the internet, which is well priced for a single vineyard, small production wine that is stylishly produced. Pair this with Sunday brunch type of foods or fancy salads, or have a blast drinking it straight up.
