Domaine Saint Vincent Rose’

93996The Domaine Saint Vincent Rose’ is Gruet Winery’s entry level Sparkling wine. 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the same New Mexico vineyards used for Gruet Sparkling wine. Saint Vincent is the Patron Saint of winemakers. Made in the Methode Champenoise style, the same way Champagne is produced (2nd fermentation in the bottle) and aged for En Tirage for a minimum of 18 months. “En Tirage”  means the spent yeast and sugar residue is left in the bottle and the residue imparts additional flavor and structure. The alcohol content is 12%.

The color is pale salmon pink with loads of bubbles. The nose is floral with sliced strawberries in cream, a light delicate aroma. A very dry bubbly, it tastes of strawberry Crush pop, dried cherry, sour pomegranate and with a slight touch of creaminess on the mid palate. There is a fizzy dash of acidity to propel the finish along for a decent amount of time.

The Domaine Saint Vincent Rose’ is a wonderful Sparkling wine, especially when you can find it for $10 or under, I found it for $8. Surprisingly delicate and subtle, if not complex and layered, it is a thoughtful, well crafted Bubbly. It is incredible that Gruet can make a Bubbly this good for such a reasonable price.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
