2010 Brander Sauvignon Blanc

1066556xThe 2010 Brander Sauvignon Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from the San Ynez AVA in Santa Barbara County and San Ynez both part of the larger Central Coast AVA. This Sauvignon Blanc uses grapes from Brander’s estate vineyards along with grapes grown from other vineyards in the Los Olivos sub region of San Ynez. The 2010 vintage is Brander Vineyards 34th vintage of Sauvignon Blanc wine and they have recently started converting their vineyards to bio-dynamic farming practices. A small portion of the Sauvignon Blanc is aged in used French oak barrels for 4 to 5 months.

The color is just a hint of yellow. The nose is pineapple, peach, pink grapefruit and flowers, very strong vivid aromas. There is a substantial mouthfeel and while there are bright fresh fruit flavors this is a dry wine. Peaches, apricots and pears start things off, there is a balanced minerality that runs through out the length of the wine. The acidity is balanced with the body of the wine and the finish is impressively long.

The Brander San Ynez Sauvignon Blanc is a top quality wine, it is something of a combination of California Sauvignon Blancs and Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley in France. A well constructed, reasonably priced ($13 to $15) wine, with depth and length. The Brander Sauvignon Blanc is one the better Sauvignon Blancs available in this price range.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
