2009 Georges Duboeuf Cru Beaujolais Brouilly

Georges-Duboeuf-2009-Brouilly-FlowerThe 2009 Georges Duboeuf Cru Beaujolais Brouilly is 100% Gamay sourced from vineyards near the village of Brouilly in the Beaujolais AOC of Burgundy, France. Cru Beaujolais wines are sourced from one the 10 best designated villages in the Beaujolais district. The Cru Beaujolais is a young fruit forward wine and is not aged in oak barrels. The 2009 Beaujolais vintage is the best vintage in recent memory. The alcohol content is 13%.

The color is black cherry red with dark purple highlights. A very floral nose, not much fruit, but a nice walk thru the garden. Medium bodied with very vibrant fresh fruit upfront, blackberry and licorice followed by strawberry jelly. The mid-palate is light cherry, blueberry and a nice earthy flavor. The tannins are soft and the acidity is balanced, the finish is strong and lengthy.

The Georges Duboeuf Cru Beaujolais Brouilly reminds me of a young unoaked Pinot Noir, rich flavors, nice complexity, but somewhat delicate. The Cru Beaujolais Brouilly should be available $15 (under on sale) and is  a quality wine at that price. A terrific bottle to bring to a BYOB restaurant, inexpensive, great tasting and versatile enough to pair with a wide variety of dishes.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
